Dear Professor Robinson,
I discuss the subject of Korean women's body images extensively in my blog on Korean social issues, and I think that the following posts of mine would provide excellent background information for your students.
These first three are based on Taeyon Kim's article "Neo-Confucian Body Techniques: Women's Bodies in Korea's Consumer Society" in Body & Society, Vol. 9, No. 2, 97-113 (2003):

And in the next three posts I discuss Korean women's attitudes to dieting, exercise, cosmetics and cosmetic surgery industry more directly. All are partially based on Minjeong Kim and Sharron Lennon's article "Content Analysis of Diet Advertisements: A Cross-National Comparison of Korean and U.S. Women’s Magazines” in Clothing and Textiles Research Journal, October 2006, which is directly downloadable here.

I have many many more related posts, but I think that those six would be the most helpful.

James Turnbull.

Dear List:

I'm working with several students and some HS teachers that have all
contacted me recently with an interest in the issue of cosmetic surgery in
Korea.  They are hearing that Korea is a plastic surgery Mecca in East Asia
and possibly on a broader scale.  Does anyone out do work on this issue or
is conversant with others' work in this area?  All I can do is confirm the
general story, and I know there has been some good work done on this.  I'm
busy preparing to take a group to Korea so I'm not in a position to work on
this..any help would be appreciated.
