I am sorry to be late, but here are details of the next 3 Royal Asiatic Society, Korea Branch lectures. The lectures take place in the Residents' Lounge on the 2nd floor of Somerset Palace at 7:30pm on the dates indicated (usually the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month). All are welcome; non RAS-KB members are asked to pay a KWon 5000 contribution toward expenses. We are very much encouraged by the fact that so many people are coming to these lectures at present; over 100 attended the January lecture, a record for recent years, at least!

The Legitimacy of Force: An Chungg?n’s killing of It? Hirobumi

The lecture will examine the question of legitimacy surrounding An’s killing of It?, at the time of It?’s death and the present day. Through such a study we can better understand how force was perceived and legitimized during both the days of high imperialism in the last years of the Chos?n dynasty and today, as well as the conflict and ambiguity that surrounds its exercise.
