Dear List members,
Can anyone tell me about the following book which I saw on a booksellers
website recently?
5000 Years of Korean Arts by National Museum of Korea. Presumed first
edition/first printing thus. Wraps. National Museum of Korea (1976)
Very good. No dust jacket as issued. Book is in a slipcase. Slipcase has
some wear and soiling. 339, [2] p. Includes: illustrations, maps. Many of
the plates are in color. Chronological Table. List of Plates. Preface by
Choi Sunu, Director, National Museum of Korea. This work contains
masterpieces from different periods and introductions by experts. The experts who
authored the sectional introductions are: Yi Ki-baek; Kim Won-yong; Han
Byong-sam; Chin Hong-sop; Hwand Su-yong; Ann Key-hyon; Choi Sunu; and Chong
Yang-mo.
Is this a common item? Is it well regarded? The bookseller's website
where I saw it is _www.groundzerobooksltd.com_
(http://www.groundzerobooksltd.com) . It seems to have a lot of military and political items in English
related to Korea but there seemed to be relatively few items on Korean
culture and artistic heritage.
Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
Sincerely,
Roger

Curator-led Tour of the Philadelphia Museum of Art's Korean Art Collection
and PMA Korean Craft Fair on Friday, November 13th
The Korean Art Society and the Philadelphia Museum of Art have planned for
you an exciting Korean Art Day in Philadelphia, only about a one hour
train ride from New York. We will begin the day at the annual Philadelphia
Museum Craft Fair. Every year, this fair focuses on and invites artists from
one country, and this year it's Korea! We'll tour the fair, meet the
artists, have lunch and then be treated to a tour of the PMA's Korean art
galleries by Hyunsoo Woo, Curator of Korean Art. PMA is one of only 4 American
museums to have their important Korean collections catalogued by the Korean
government. This is a very rare opportunity to see a great variety of
antique and contemporary Korean art and artists all at one time, and promises to
be a lot of fun. As always, the Korean Art Society charges no fee for its
part in this event. You need only pay your transportation costs and
admission fees.

various KAS events, but now you can actually learn to create your own Minhwa
at a class conducted by Seongmin Ahn. Please click on the attachment below
