(Full) Professorship in Korean Studies:

Consequent upon a five-year grant made by the Korea Foundation, the University
is seeking to appoint to a new Korea Foundation Chair of Korean Studies in the
School of East Asian Studies and in the White Rose East Asia Centre upon the
retirement of Professor James H Grayson. The post is permanent.

The School welcomes applications from outstanding candidates in any field within
Korean Studies - history, politics, society, culture, or economics. Regardless
of disciplinary specialism or period of research focus, candidates for the post
should be able to teach modules covering twentieth and twenty-first century
Korea.  Candidates also should be able to teach comparatively about other East
Asian countries as well as Korea. Candidates whose research involves a
comparative East Asian dimension are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have an established international reputation in
the field of Korean Studies, and have an outstanding publication record.  He or
she will be able to provide research leadership, attract external funding and
research students to the School, and act as a mentor to newly-appointed
colleagues in any area of the School.  The new Professor will be expected to
represent the School in the wider University, and to promote and represent the
University and the discipline nationally and internationally.  The post is
available from 1 September 2010.
