[KS] Kyujanggak International Symposium (Aug. 27-28)

Dear Colleagues,

This coming Friday and Saturday, the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies will hold its third international symposium on Korean Studies. As this year marks the 100th anniversary of the annexation of Korea by Japan, the main theme of this year's symposium is "The Japanese Annexation of Korea, 100 Years Later: Looking back at 1910." Two keynote presentations, one panel, and the keynote panel are devoted to this topic, but there are also three panels that deal with other key areas in Korean Studies. 
The outline of the program is as follows:

Friday 27
9.30-11.30: Registration, keynote presentations by Prof. Yi T'ae-jin and Prof. Miyajima Hiroshi

14.00-17.00: afternoon panels:
"Critical Geographical Readings on Post-Colonial Korea"

"New Angles on Cross-Cultural Exchanges in East Asia"

Saturday 28
9.30-12.30: morning panels:
"Rethinking the Demise of the Korean Empire and Colonization: Ideas, Images, and Policies"

"Korean Capitalism: Past, Present, and Future"

14.00-17.00 Keynote panel
"The Changing International Position of Korea after 1910"
