Dear list members,
I wanted to quickly bring to your attention that the Academy of Korean
Studies has started to distribute their wealth of premodern historical
data under a Creative Commons license. For one example, see:
http://bit.ly/7OJHyu. Not all parts of the AKS website reflect this
change yet, but I expect the copyright notices to be updated gradually
over time.
Here is an introduction to Creative Commons, if you are not familiar
with it already: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons.
This is a historic decision in my view, and prepares the Korean
history field for the upcoming wave of digital humanities (cf. blog
and twitter updates from MLA 2009 and AHA 2010).
I hope this trend catches on to other distributors digitized historical sources.
Javier
