>CALL FOR PAPERS
>The directory of world cinema aims to bring a new dimension to the
>academic study of film. The directory is intended to play a part in the
>distribution of academic output, by building a forum for the study of
>film from a disciplined theoretical base.
>I am delighted to be the editor for Intellect’s Directory of World
>Cinema: Korea, having previously written reviews and essays for
>Directory of World Cinema: Japan and Directory of World Cinema: America
>Independent (both edited by John Berra).
>The directory will be available both as hard copy and an online
>resource, with the publication of the print volume scheduled for July
>2011.
>Please note that this is the first volume in what is an ongoing
>project and I have had to make decisions about what would be the most
>useful to include in this volume.
>Detailed information can be found at:
>The volume will consist of both critical essays (1,500- 2,000 words)
>and individual film reviews (700-800 words). Beginning with a series of
>independent essays providing focus on key areas of Korean cinema, the
>book moves into essays on four key South Korean directors before moving
>into sections, divided by either genre or cinematic movement. For each
>of these sections, there will be an introductory essay and between ten
>and twenty reviews available of key films (the online database will be
>more extensive than this).
>While at the moment the book is predominantly concerned with South
>Korean cinema, simply because it is more difficult to get hold of films
>from North Korea in view of the current political situation, I
>anticipate future volumes to have more extensive listings and reviews of
> North Korean films.
>My remit for this volume is simple. It should be informative,
>educational and entertaining. It should become an indispensible and
>comprehensive resource on Korean cinema. This volume has been shaped by
>my struggle to find information for my forthcoming book on Korean horror
> cinema. It is not that this information does not exist, as there are a
>number of excellent books on Korean cinema, but it is the ease of having
> access to information in one place which is offered by such a
>directory.
