Dear friends and colleagues,
I think and hope many will already be familiar with
A Year in Pyongyang by the late Andrew Holloway.
Although hitherto only available on my website,
for which thanks are due to Andrew's son Ross
- see _http://aidanfc.net/pyongyang.html_
(http://aidanfc.net/pyongyang.html) and
_http://aidanfc.net/a_year_in_pyongyang_1.html_
(http://aidanfc.net/a_year_in_pyongyang_1.html) -
this unique memoir has, as I had hoped it would,
become quite widely read and cited in the literature.
See for instance pp 139-41 in Bruce Cumings'
North Korea: Another Country (New Press, 2004),
whose bibliography lists Holloway between
Selig Harrison and Helen-Louise Hunter.
And lo, a dream long-cherished has come to pass.
Much more conveniently, and remarkably cheaply,
you can now buy and read A Year in Pyongyang
as a proper book; or if preferred, a download.
This happy event is entirely thanks to Tim Eyre,
whose zeal and kindness I can't praise enough.
He suggested it and has done the whole thing,
including editing and setting the text, as a labour
of love. This is a rare spirit to find nowadays.
There's a link to buy the book at Tim's website:
_http://sites.google.com/site/nihilistorguk/_
(http://sites.google.com/site/nihilistorguk/)
This offers other items of interest too, including:
* a Kanji font of his devising; and
* his own travelogue of a visit to the DPRK in 2002.
Alternatively, you can order A Year in Pyongyang directly at
_http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/a-year-in-pyongyang/14737249_
(http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/a-year-in-pyongyang/14737249)
In the UK the price is just £4.93, plus £2.99 postage.
(I gather that US dollar and euro prices, also modest,
are applied if you order from outside the UK.)
Or if you prefer a downoad, this will cost you the princely
sum of £0.66! That's barely a dollar, and less than a euro.
The download comes immediately, as I can testify.
The books are made to order, which takes 3-5 days.
End of advert. I hope you enjoy the book.
Wishing everyone a warm weekend from (finally) sunny Devon,
Aidan FC
