[KS] U.S. involvement in the Gwangju Uprising

I am currently reading Bruce Cumings new (2011) book on the Korean War (Modern Library) and learning many things that are very sad. It naturally leads me to wonder how one could study the US involvement in Gwangju properly without linking in to the whole pattern of US involvement in Korea since 1945.
