Dear all,

I am trying to identify two 
Westerners mentioned in June 12, 
1897 issue of /The Independent/ (독 
립신문) as follows:

     타운션 데슬나(American)
     존슨(British)

Reporting on the founding of Great 
Chosŏn Ramie Spinning Company (大朝 
鮮 苧麻 製絲會社), Korea's arguably 
first joint stock venture, the 
article mentions the two as '쥬무관 
'(=주무관, "main duty officers"). I 
would at least like to know their 
full names in English. For your 
information, other individuals 
mentioned in the article are (I am 
using contemporary Korean orthography):

     안경수    회장, 주무관
     이채연    부회장
     이근배    장무관, 주무관
     윤규섭    장무관
     방한덕    서기관
     윤효정    서기관
     우항선    서기관
     Philip Jaisohn    주무관

Since all of the above are well 
known individuals to anyone studying 
political history of the period, I 
would like to think that both 타운션 
데슬나 and 존슨 too are traceable.
