The Orthodox community in Korea was established, I believe, by Koreans who had become Orthodox while living in Harbin, where there were (and still are) several (Russian) Orthodox churches. They attended the Orthodox chapel attached to the Russian Legation in Seoul, and continued to use it, with ordained Koreans serving them, who grew old an died, until they were discovered by Greek army chaplains during the Korean War with one elderly Korean deacon left. The site of the present church at Aeogae was given to them in order to free the Russian Legation site so that it could be sold. There are certainly Greek-speaking Koreans in the community, and a considerable effort of translation of the Greek Fathers (Philocalia) has been undertaken.

At least a significant number of courses (perhaps all) at the Catholic Major Seminary were being taught in Latin until the 1960s. One wonders how much was understood.
