The Journal of Korean Religions would like to announce the October 2013 publication of Volume 4, Number 2 "North Korea and Religion."

This groundbreaking collection of research on a variety of religious activities past and present in North Korea and among North Koreans abroad includes an introduction from guest editor Prof. Carl Young and articles addressing Buddhism, Christianity, and Ch’ŏndogyo in North Korea, missionary activities among North Koreans in South Korea and China, and an analysis of the religions nature of “Jucheism” as manifest in the Arirang festival.

Also included is a research article on South Korean religion examining posal, a liminal figure currently causing friction online and in sacred spaces of both Buddhism and Shamanism.

Book reviews include a Korean language text on Chosŏn-era theories on rituals and calendars, a Japanese language text on colonial-era religious interaction, as well as an English language examination of the role of Tonghak thought in early modern Korea.
