JOB ANNOUNCEMENT PROFESSOR HISTORY OF ASIA

The department of History (Faculty  Geography, History, Social Sciences)
 at the University Paris Diderot Paris 7 invites applications for the
following position from September 2014:

Professor in History
History of States and Transnational Dynamics in Asia 18th – 21th Centuries

The position topic deals more specifically with national building and
political and religious institutions, including  the economic and cultural
dynamics at work in the complex process of norms and rules building (law,
moral, religious and economic).

The candidate will be a specialist on Modern or Contemporary History of one
Asian country  and/or of and Asian area (South Asia, South East Asia, East
Asia) and will contribute  to the development of a « History of Asia hub ».
He/She  will have excellent teaching skills (in French) on history of Asia
but also  world history and historical method for undergraduates and
supervise master and PhD students working on Asian areas. Furthermore,
aptitude for program administration and willingness to assume
responsibility for the conceptual design and implementation of Master
courses  is appreciated.

He/She should have the mastering of local sources, the knowledge of French,
English and an Asian language, as well as a large knowledge of the area and
of its political and cultural diversity. He/She will lead his/her
researches in the framework of the unit research  CESSMA (Center Studies in
Social Sciences on the African, American and Asian Worlds) and will
incorporate his/her  researches within the larger framework of
relationships with other regions of the world , in a multidisciplinary and
comparative perspective. Well integrated in the  European and international
research framework of Asian Studies, he/she  will have the willingness to
developing international academic cooperation, in particular with Asian and
Western universities.  Experience in acquiring external funding for
teaching and research  are welcomed.
