Mt. Chilbo Registered as International Biosphere Reserve
Pyongyang, July 3 (KCNA) -- Mt. Chilbo was registered as an international
biosphere reserve at the 26th meeting of the UNESCO International
Coordinating Council of the Man and Biosphere Program, the fourth of its
kind after the registration of Mts. Paektu, Myohyang and Kuwol.
    Mt. Chilbo, one of six famous mountains in Korea, has been called "Mt.
Kumgang in North Hamgyong Province" for its scenery.
    The mountain, covering 250 square kilometers of area in the
northeastern coastal part of Korea, is divided into Inner Chilbo, Outer
Chilbo and Sea Chilbo boasting of waterfalls, fantastic rocks, thick
forests and sea sceneries.
    There are also many historical relics and the state natural monuments
in the mountain. And more than 40 percent of the species of the country's
animals and birds are inhabited in the mountain favorable for ecology
tourism.
    Thanks to the nature conservation policy of the Workers' Party of
Korea, biodiversity in the area of Mt. Chilbo has been further encouraged.

조선의 칠보산지구를 세계생물권보호구로 등록

    최근 유네스코 인간 및 생물권계획 국제조정리사회 제26차회의에서는 조선의 칠보산지구를 세계생물권보호구로 등록하였다.
    이로써 세계적인 생물권보호구로 등록된 조선의 명산들은 백두산과 구월산,묘향산에 이어 4번째이다.
    조선의 6대명산중의 하나인 칠보산은 아름다운 자연풍치로 하여 예로부터 《함북금강》으로 불리워왔다.
    칠보산은 동쪽은 조선동해,서쪽은 길주-명천지구대,북쪽은 경성만에 흘러드는 어랑천과 그 지류 화성천,남쪽은 조선동해와 화대천을
경계로 하고있으며 그 면적은 250㎢에 달한다.
    칠보산은 내칠보와 외칠보,해칠보로 나눈다.
    이 지구에는 산악과 계곡,폭포,천태만상의 기암괴석들,울창한 수림이 장관을 이루고있을뿐아니라 바다경치가 조화를 이루고있고 오랜
력사유적들과 국가천연기념물들이 있다.
    지리학적위치와 서식지 및 먹이환경의 풍부성으로 하여 나라의 짐승류와 새류의 40%이상이 분포되여있으며 식물분포가 독특하고
수직대성이 뚜렷하다.
    칠보산의 경치를 두고 봄이면 백화만발하여 꽃동산,여름에는 록음이 우거져 록음산,가을이면 단풍이 붉게 들어 홍아산,겨울에는
흰눈으로 은빛단장하여 설백산이라고 하였다.
    이 지구는 생태관광업발전의 풍부한 잠재력도 가지고있다.
    조선로동당의 자연보호정책으로 하여 칠보산지구의 생물다양성이 적극 보호되고있다. (끝)
