Project
Title North Korea and the United States Congress: Evidence based policy?

Project
Description

The
subject is of theoretical, empirical, interest and public policy in that the
debate about the veracity of evidence in relation to the study of north Korea
has rarely been systematically analysed, not in terms of factual accuracy, but
in respect to epistemological and sociological issues about the construction of
knowledge. The study has the potential to improve understanding of how US
policy to North Korea changed and why - but also to help us understand how
foreign policy is made in democracies more generally and the role of perception
and bias in the process and outcomes of foreign policy-making.

The
studentship holder will:

1)
conduct
research on the relationship between the US Congress and United States foreign
policy relationship to United States policy towards the DPRK since the
end of the Cold war
2)
evaluate
the issue of objectivity, bias and perception in foreign policy-making and
implementation using relevant theoretical literature
