Jobs to start effective August 28, 2017
The Graduate School of International and Area Studies at Hankuk University
of Foreign Studies, Seoul, Korea, is seeking to fill a faculty position
(for non-Koreans), effective August 28 1, 2017, to teach graduate students
in English. The assistant professor level is preferred, but associate
professor level will also be considered according to qualifications.
Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. degree in the related area and
preferably a few years of relevant experiences.
Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) is the most globalized
institution of higher education in Korea. The university is known for its
dynamic academic community with great cultural diversity, bolstered by its
45 foreign language departments. Many faculty members and students are from
various foreign countries.
As of now, about 40-50 graduate students both in MA and Ph.D. levels
registers in the department of Korean Studies, and a few of dozens of MA
and Ph.D. candidates have been working on their theses and dissertations.
More than half of students are foreign students and several of foreign
graduates have returned home to teach courses on Korean studies in their
home universities.
The expected monthly salaries for starting positions at assistant/associate
professorship for 2017 are 4,082,100 or 3,498,600 Korean Won, and 4,668,100
Korean Won, respectively. Newly appointed professors will also be offered
one-way air tickets to Seoul (for faculty member and his or her spouse) and
accommodations within or near the University.

Four social insurance schemes apply (Health, Pension, Unemployment and
Industrial Accident);

Generous grants applicable for publications with internationally
renowned academic journals (e.g. KRW 10 million (USD 9,090) for a
publication indexed SSCI as of 2015; subject to yearly budget limits from
2016 on);

A round-trip airfare, per year, for a presentation of a paper at an
international conference;

Contracts renewable annually upon fulfillment of annual teaching and
research requirements.

one-page dissertation abstract and a one-page statement of research
