Researcher/curatorial assistant (temporary), Stockholm

Ministry of Culture. The instruction of the agency states that the National
Museums of World Culture is responsible for displaying and bringing to life
the various cultures of our world, in particular cultures outside of
Sweden. Furthermore, the agency is to document and illustrate different
cultural manifestations and conditions as well as cultural encounters and
variations from a historical, contemporary, national and international
perspective. *

The Swedish National Museums of World Culture is recruiting a
Researcher/Curatorial Assistant* to work on the Korean collections at the
Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities.  The position will last for one year and
will be supervised by the Curator for Korean collections.



*Whether the successful applicant is a Researcher or Curatorial Assistant
will be dependent on their previous experience and existing knowledge.


Position description

The successful applicant will work closely with the Curator of Korean
collections to improve and develop the electronic database for the Korean
collection at the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities.  The responsibilities
of the position include researching individual objects (their dating,
function, cultural significance, history, production methods, etc.), as
well as histories of collections in the Museum’s archives, and entering
information into Carlotta, the electronic database of the Museums of World
Culture.  The successful applicant will receive training from the
Digitalisation Coordinator for working on the database.


Education and experience

The minimum education background for the successful applicant is a Bachelor
of Arts in the humanities.  If the applicant’s education did not include
Korean art, history, and/or culture, then working experience, in Korean
art, culture, and/or history is required.  The ideal candidate has at least
a Master of Arts in Korean art history, with a focus on ceramics, and
previous museum research experience.
Competence The successful applicant is required to be able to communicate
fluently in both spoken and written English and Korean.  Written and spoken
Swedish language is highly desirable.  Knowledge about and working
experience with Korean material culture, particularly ceramics, is also
highly desirable.     Application
