*PONY CHUNG Fellowship & RIKS Academy Information*

Research Institute of Korean Studies at Korea University is operating a
program for young researchers and graduate students in both Korea and
abroad, under the auspices of the Pony Chung Foundation, as shown below.

=Programs=

*1. The Second PONY CHUNG Fellowship*
① Goals: To provide promising young scholars with the tools and resources
to expand their research, delve
deeper into their topic of studies and develop academic relationships
within Korean academia.
② Eligibility: Researchers of non-Korean nationality who have received
their PhD
in the field of Korean Studies within 5 years(Some exceptions may apply)
* Korean citizens who hold dual citizenship are eligible to apply
③ Number of Appointments: 2
④ Duration of Funding: March 2018 – February 2019 (or September 2018 –
August 2019)
⑤ Fellowship Benefits: Research Funding (50,000,000 KRW), Publication
Funding (10,000,000 KRW),
Appointment as a Research Professor and Office Space
⑥ Submission Deadline: June 30, 2017

*2. The Second RIKS Academy*

① Goals: Further developing young scholars’ expertise in Korean studies and
creating a network of young researchers.
② Eligibility:
- Graduate students who are in M.A. or PhD programs in field of Korean
Studies
- Applicants must be able take courses, give presentations, and participate
in discussions conducted
in Korean
③ Number of Participants: about 20 (10 Korean graduate students, 10
foreign-national graduate students)
④ Dates: Monday August 7 - Friday August 11, 2017 (For the duration of five
days)
⑤ Place: Research Institute of Korean Studies, Korea University
⑥ Main Programs: Intensive courses, Research Symposium
⑦ Funding Information:
- Scholarship awarded to participants: KRW 1 million
- Travel Grants are available for participants from abroad (Up to KRW 1
million for participants from the
Americas and Europe; Up to KRW 500,000 for those coming from Asia)

① 목적: 해외 한국학분야 신진연구자를 초청하여 연구 및 국내 학계와 소통 지원
② 지원자격: 한국학 분야 외국인 신진연구자(박사학위 취득 5년 이내)
③ 선발인원: 2명
④ 지원기간: 2018년 3월~2019년 2월(또는 2018년 9월~2019년 8월)
⑤ 지원내용: 연구지원금(5,000만원 이내), 출판지원금(1,000만원), 연구교수 임용, 연구실 제공

① 목적: 젊은 연구자들의 전문성 강화, 교류 확대
② 참가자격:
- 국내외 대학의 한국학 분야 대학원생
- 한국어로 진행되는 강좌를 수강하고, 한국어 발표 및 토론이 가능한 자
③ 선발인원: 20명 내외(한국의 대학원생 10명, 해외의 대학원생 10명)
④ 일시: 2017년 8월 7일 ~ 8월 11일 [5일간]
⑤ 장소: 고려대학교 민족문화연구원
⑥ 주요 프로그램: 집중강좌, 연구 발표회
⑦ 지원내용:
- 장학금 수여: 100만원
- 해외 참가자는 Travel Grant 지원(미주/유럽 최대 100만원, 아시아 최대 50만원)
