*CALL FOR APPLICATIONS*

Deadline: February 9, 2018

The University of Michigan Nam Center for Korean Studies is accepting
applications for its inaugural manuscript workshop. The manuscript
workshop, to be held on May 12, 2018 (Sat), will offer two pre-tenure
scholars in Korean Studies, preparing a book-length manuscript or other
similarly substantial academic publication, with an opportunity to further
develop their manuscripts for publication.

At the workshop, the participants will receive critical feedback on their
manuscript from up to two senior faculty mentors, and the participants will
be asked to nominate the senior faculty mentors as part of the application.
Each manuscript will be circulated in advance and discussed in turn.

The Nam Center seeks to develop a network of scholars in Korean studies,
and the workshop participants will be asked to serve as a discussant for
one paper session of the 2018 International Conference of NextGen Korean
Studies Scholars (NEKST)

which will take place concurrent to the workshop on May 11-12, 2018.

Domestic round-trip economy fare to DTW, and local expenses (ground
transportation, lodging, and meals) will be provided for each participant.

*Eligibility and Application*

To be eligible, applicants must have institutional affiliation, either a
tenure-track faculty position or post-doctoral university affiliation, and
have attained her/his Ph.D. by August of 2017. All fields in the social
sciences and humanities will be considered.

Two applicants will be selected to participate.

Special consideration will be given to tenure-track applicants, those whose
manuscript is nearing completion, and/or applicants from institutions in
the Midwest and the Big Ten Academic Alliance.

Applicants will need to submit the following materials:

• CV
• Statement of Interest (no longer than 500 words)
• An annotated table of contents of the manuscript, if available
• Two representative chapters out of the manuscript
• A list of two preferred faculty mentors and an alternate
