The articles in this volume collectively reflect on the history and postwar
legacy of “empire” (formal and informal) focusing on the geopolitical nexus
involving Japan, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific. The six confirmed
contributions fall into two groups in terms of their geographic or thematic
concerns. The first group examines Imperial Japan’s administration of
Micronesia in pre-war and post war US presence  in that region and wider
region of Pacific. The first group examines Imperial Japan’s pre-war
administration of Micronesia, and the US’s post-war presence in that region
and the wider Pacific. The second group is concerned with the US’s post-war
presence in Okinawa and the Pacific, related to tje topics pf public health
and gender issues.



The editor welcomes new contributions to this volume. Funding for
publication has been secured, and a preliminary publication agreement has
been reached with Kwansei Gakuin University Press. While contributions in
Japanese (15,000-20,000 characters) are preferred, *English contributions
(around 10,000 words) are also welcome*. Once accepted, the editor will be
responsible for arranging for and funding the translation of English
manuscripts. The deadline for submission, which is non-negotiable, is *December
30, 2019*.
