Hosted by the Research Institute of Korean Studies at Korea University Sponsored by the Pony Chung Foundation The Sixth PONY CHUNG Fellowship    for Young Korean Studies Scholars   1. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES  The field of Korean Studies has been quantitatively and qualitatively progressing internationally, with new researchers continually emerging. It is important to provide opportunities for young international scholars to visit Korea to explore new themes and increase their expertise in Korean Studies. A strong research environment and opportunities to collaborate with domestic researchers during their visit can enhance international scholars’ research results.With support from the Pony Chung Foundation, Korea University’s Research Institute of Korean Studies (RIKS) established the ‘PONY CHUNG Fellowship’ for Young Korean Studies Scholars in 2016. The goal of this program is to provide young international scholars in the field of Korean Studies with financial support, a suitable research infrastructure, and a platform on which they can share ideas and research outcomes with others in the field. Through this program, scholars are able to develop their topics and further expand their research, thereby contributing to the overall development and globalization of Korean Studies. Prospective participants are invited to submit their applications.  2. ELIGIBILITY    ○   Researchers of non-Korean nationality who have received their Ph.D. in the field of Korean Studies   (includes the humanities, social sciences, and comparative international research with a focus on Korean Studies)○   Researchers of Korean nationality who hold dual citizenship and have received a Ph.D. in the field of Korean Studies○   {C}{C}Applicants who have received their doctoral degree within five years of the start of applying○   Applicants who have concrete plans to publish their research findings through a prestigious foreign university press within three years of the fellowship period are given precedence.  3. NUMBER AND DURATION OF APPOINTMENT   ○  Number of Appointments: Two○  Duration of Funding: March 2022 – February 2023(or September 2022 – August 2023) 4. FELLOWSHIP BENEFITS   ○  Pony Chung Research Funding: Up to KRW 50,000,000 (≒USD 44,000) per year - tax and airfare include ○  Publication subsidy: KRW 10,000,000 (≒USD 8,800)  - Publication subsidies are provided when a monograph is published, within three years after the end of the fellowship,     at one of the prestigious university presses in North America or England. ○  Being appointed a research professor by the president of Korea University ○  Shared office space will be provided at the Research Institute of Korean Studies (RIKS) ○  Assistance in making the arrangements to live in the Korea University dormitory  5. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Application Deadline: May 31, 2021    Initial Review: June 2021                Interview: June 2021                Final Decision: early July 2021* PONY CHUNG Fellowship Selection Committee will carry out evaluations  6. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS  ○  Curriculum Vitae○  Research Statement○ One letter of recommendation from an academic advisor or a distinguished scholar: Recommenders should send letters of reference directly to icks at korea.ac.kr  7. DUTIES OF BENEFICIARIES  ○  Participate and present in the ‘PONY CHUNG Fellowship Symposium’○  Organize and participate in a ‘PONY CHUNG Fellow Workshop”*From 2021, with the expansion of the scope of research support for Korean Studies  through the Pony Chung Foundation, fellows are expected to organize and participate in a ‘PONY CHUNG Fellow Workshop’ in collaboration with domestic or international scholars. ○  Responsible for mentoring RIKS Academy presenters and involvement in the selection process.○  Participate in academic events at the Research Institute of Korean Studies○  Submit a report on the results of your research within three months following the end of the Fellowship period(Report must include the research activities based on the Research Proposal conducted during the Fellowship period,academic lecture, the submission, and publication of your thesis, etc.)  8.
