3) RAS Korea Book Note: 'The World is One'
by Yi Pang-ja, 1973. Available from RAS Korea office.

The World is One, Yi Pang-ja’s 1973 autobiography. Princess Yi Pang-ja was the wife of Korea’s last reigning king, Yi Un, or Yeongchinwang. She was born into the Japanese royal family, and as a young teenager was married to the then-Crown Prince of Korea. When King (former emperor) Sunjong died in 1926, Yi Un was installed as Korea’s king and Pang-ja became queen consort. For the next 20 years, or so, the royal couple carried out dozens of public royal duties in Korea and Europe. When the Korean republic was established, the newly adopted constitution stripped Korea’s royal family of titles. Shortly after Yeongchinwang’s death in 1970, the princess wrote this intimate memoir.

Long out of print, RAS Korea has come across a few reprint copies that are available for KRW20,000. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, shipping to addresses outside Korea is not possible. Drop by the RAS office and pick up your copy, or ask Joanne (royalasiatickorea at gmail.com) to mail it to your Korea address (you will also pay postage).
