The 1st Special Lecture of Distinguished Oversea Scholar


Dear Colleagues,

As follows, The Korean Legal History Research Center at Hanyang University
will give a special lecture on customs as a source of law in European and
East Asian legal history. Speaker, Prof. Marie Kim will introduce whether
customs existed as a judicial norm in the Joseon Dynasty under comparison
with Europe. We look forward to the participation of colleagues interested
in Korean law.

About the Speaker:
•Academic background
Marie Seong-Hak Kim is a historian and jurist. She is known for her work of
comparing European and East Asian legal history, with emphasis on the
sources of law, legal theories, and court practices. She graduated from
Ewha Women's University in Seoul. She received her Ph.D. from the
University of Minnesota, where she worked under Paul W. Bamford and James
D. Tracy. She also earned her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law
School.
