Call for Papers:
The 6th Social Sciences Korean Studies European Network (SoKEN) Conference on “Korean Youth Abroad”, GOETHE UNIVERSITY OF FRANKFURT, GERMANY, 10-11 NOVEMBER 2023

The Social Sciences Korean Studies European Network (SoKEN) started in 2017 as a workshop at Turku University, Finland, for a small group of academics in Korean Studies in Europe. Ever since, SoKEN has expanded the scope and depth of its topics and the range of its participants. It has held annual conferences at Paris Diderot (2018), Central Lancashire (2019), Edinburgh (2021) and Bologna (2022), covering diverse topics in Korean Studies from a Social Science perspective.
Goethe University of Frankfurt will host the 2023 SoKEN Conference on “Korean Youth Abroad”. The main topics include:

  *   Second generation Korean diaspora (identity, integration, consumption of Hallyu, return visits)
  *   Young Korean skilled experts abroad (education credentials, deskilling)
  *   Pre-college and college Korean students abroad (education migration and mobility, transnational family)
  *   Working holiday makers, volunteers, and tourists (nexus between tourism and migration)
  *   Any other type of Korean youth temporary migrants (migration as a process)
  *   Papers on other issues on Korean youth abroad will also be considered.
Presenters will be provided with meals and accommodation for two nights in Frankfurt.
Key Dates:

  *   Deadline for abstract (400 words) and biography of the author (150 words): 15 February 2023
  *   Result notification: 5 April 2023
  *   Deadline for full paper (maximum 8,000 words): 30 September 2023.

Publication:
Excellent papers will be published either in an edited volume or in a special issue in a journal after the conference. We encourage the participation of PhD candidates and early career scholars in and beyond Europe.
