Abstract: Studies of the U.S. intervention in the Vietnam War do not sufficiently acknowledge the many parallels with prior U.S. involvement in the Korean War. In examining the background of U.S. intervention in Vietnam and U.S. military strategy, I argue that the U.S. repeated many of its ‘misperceptions’ and ‘miscalculations’ from the Korean War in its approach to the Vietnam War.
