Dear Jonathan,

Thank you for posting this. It has been a few years since I last spoke with her, and I read your message with a heavy heart. As you know, I was Ed Wagner's advisee in the '90s, and she had really taken me under her wings. Looking back, I feel she may have appreciated having me around as someone young enough to be a grandson, talking to her in Korean. With me, she shared much about her life, past and then-present. I am sure many on this listserve who knew Namhi shares my sentiment. She will be missed dearly.

Yours,

Gene

Subject: [KS] Sad news

I write with sad news. Namhi Kim Wagner, wife of Ed Wagner and the long-serving Director of the Korean Language Program at Harvard, died peacefully in her ninety-ninth year last Thursday, March 9th. Those of us who had the good fortune to know her, know what a remarkable person she was in so many ways including being an exceeding gifted ceramicist who worked innovatively and beautifully within the punchŏng tradition.

In sorrow,

Jonathan
