Thanks for sharing this. I too am so sad to hear of Nanji Kim Wagner’s
passing. She surely lived an eventful life. Always ready with a fascinating
story. Two in particular I remember and used in my teaching. One involved a
document she needed to show at interviews for teaching jobs after she
finished university in Japan. Above her Japanese name was stamped in red
‘Chosenjin’ to reveal her Korean origins. I recall her lamenting that she
didn’t get any job offers. The second story involved her father who shipped
six boats-full of equipment from Niigata, Japan back to Korea after the
war. None of them arrived.
May she Rest in Peace. She deserves it.
