Call for Papers

Innovative Methods in Korean Language Teaching

Editors: Jieun Kiaer (University of Oxford), Nicola Fraschini (University of Melbourne)

We are delighted to announce the call for papers for the edited volume “Innovative Methods in Korean Language Teaching”. The volume aims to explore and promote the use of cutting-edge approaches, such as Generative AI, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and other innovative techniques, in various aspects of Korean language instruction.
We invite researchers, educators, and practitioners in the field of Korean language teaching to submit their original research and scholarly contributions addressing the following themes:

  *   The use of Generative AI in Korean language teaching, including its application in grammar instruction, writing enhancement, translation exercises, and pragmatics.
  *   The use of generative AI for the purpose of training Korean language teachers.
  *   Exploration of the integration of VR and AR technologies to enhance teaching and learning experiences in Korean language classrooms.
  *   Investigation of student perceptions and attitudes towards innovative teaching methods in Korean language acquisition.
  *   Examination of the impact of innovative approaches on student motivation, engagement, and language learning outcomes.
  *   Exploration of the role of emotions in the teaching and learning of Korean, and how innovative methods can elicit and enhance emotional engagement.
We welcome submissions that explore other innovative aspects and techniques in Korean language teaching beyond the specified themes. We encourage authors to present empirical studies, theoretical frameworks, pedagogical approaches, and practical applications that contribute to the advancement of Korean language education.
Accepted chapters will be invited to present their work in progress, before the submission of the final draft, at an online workshop on the topic of "Innovative Methods in Korean Language Teaching." This workshop aims to explore and promote the use of cutting-edge approaches, such as Generative AI, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and other innovative techniques, in various aspects of Korean language instruction.

Important Dates:
Abstract submission deadline: June 30, 2023
Notification of acceptance: July 31, 2023
Submission of workshop draft (3,000~4,000 words): October 1
Metaverse workshop: October 14, 2023
Final full paper submission deadline: March 31, 2024
Expected publication: late 2024

Submission Guidelines:
Abstracts should be written in English and not exceed 300 words.
Submissions must be original and should not have been previously published or under review elsewhere.
Full papers should be max 7,000 words in length (including references).
Manuscripts should follow the specified formatting guidelines (e.g., APA style) as provided by the editors.
