International Conference on "Inequality and Social Policy in Korea
19-20 August 2024, Yonsei University(in person and virtual)

Korea Inequality Research Lab at Yonsei University (KIRL,www.kirl.re.kr<http://www.kirl.re.kr/>) will hold an International Conference on "Inequality and Social Policy in Korea: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Global Challenges" on 19-20 August at Yonhi Hall, Yonsei University in-person and virtually and on 3 September virtually.
The conference will accommodate both English and Korean sessions. Plenary sessions will be conducted in English.
Keynote speakers include Stephan Haggard, Torben Iversen, Thomas Piketty, and Kwang-Yeong Shin.
You may submit a maximum of two proposals on any topic on any aspect of inequality including measurements, causes, consequences, and remedies of economic, political, and social inequality. These can include individual paper presentations, as well as panel, roundtable, and workshop proposals.
We will prioritize research with a regional focus on Korea. Research on a general topic or on other countries can be considered, but there should be discussions on its implications for Korea.

Special mentoring opportunities will be provided to graduate students and junior scholars (within 5 years from obtaining PhD). They can request a senior scholar discussant and will have an informal mentoring dinner, sitting together with senior scholars at the dinner table.
No registration fee is required, ensuring open access to knowledge exchange.
Lunch and dinner will also be provided for free to all presenters, chairs, and discussants.
Limited travel grants will be available for graduate students and early-career researchers for selected papers.
The conference will be co-hosted by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, The Institute for Democracy, Gyeonggi Research Institute, Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Center for Distributive Justice at Seoul National University, Yonsei University Public Administration BK 21, Chung-Ang University Asian Social Policy Research Institute, and Korea Inequality Research Network. It will be sponsored by the Korean Studies Promotion Service(KSPS) at the Academy of Korean Studies, and co-sponsored by the National Assembly Future Institute and the Institute for Inclusive Society.
