[KS] Nordic Baltic Korean Studies Days 2024

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
the first Nordic-Baltic Korean Studies Days will take place next week
with about 100 students from Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, Finland, Norway and
Denmark. We will offer a mix of activities, including talks, workshops and
creating training sessions.

Everyone is welcome!
We will welcome the following speakers: Martin Gehlmann (Ruhr University
Bochum), Vladimir Tikhonov (University of Oslo), Soo Ryon Yoon
(Sungkonghoe University), Younghan Cho (Hankuk University of Foreign
Studies), Se-Mi Oh (University of Michigan), Olga Fedorenko (Seoul National
University), CedarBough Saeji (Pusan National University), Sonja Häussler
(University of Stockholm), Gabriel Jonsson (University of Stockholm).
Besides the talks, there will also be workshops with John Lee (Durham
University) on “The Sylvan Local: The Pine Protection Kye in Late Chosŏn
Korea, 1700–1900”, with Zoran Lee Pecic (NTNU) on “Shamans and nativism:
postcolonial trauma in Spirits' Homecoming (2016) and Manshin: Ten Thousand
Spirits (2013)”, with Marek Zemánek (Charles University) & Thapakorn
Kamnerdsiri (Thammasat University) on Korean Buddhism in Monastic
Biographies, and with Liora Sarfati (Tel Aviv University) on "Affective
Protest Symbols: Public Dissent in the Mass Commemoration of the Sewŏl
Ferry’s Victims in Seoul”.
Together with a team from Seoul National Univeristy, Andrew Logie is
leading a Silla Exhibition Training. Vladimir Tikhonov, Antti Leppänen and
Hyun Joo Choi facilitate a 한국어토론회 on the Korean diaspora, and Barbara Wall
together with Sarah Grossi and Ida Broni Christensen prepare another game
jam.
