The University of Hawaii at Mānoa, Department of East Asian Languages and
Literatures (EALL), invites applications for a tenure track Assistant
Professor of Korean Linguistics Appointment

funds.

The Department of EALL is among the largest departments of its kind in the
country and offers a curriculum unparalleled in its breadth and scope in
Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language, linguistics, literature, and
culture. We offer BA in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean; MA & PhD in EALL,
with a concentration on Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Linguistics and
Literature.

*Duties and Responsibilities*

   - Teach introductory and upper-division undergraduate courses in Korean
   language and linguistics;
   - Teach graduate courses in Korean language, linguistics, and/or field
   of specialization;
   - Advise undergraduate and graduate students;
   - Participate in graduate committees;
   - Maintain an active agenda of scholarly research and publication in
   area(s) of specialization;
   - Participate in departmental and university service;
   - Other duties as assigned by the Chair.

*Minimum Qualifications*


   1. Ph.D. in Korean Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, or a
   closely related field from a college or university of recognized standing
   (ABD will be considered, but all requirements for doctoral degree must be
   completed by August, 2025);
   2. Demonstrated expertise in Korean Linguistics;
   3. Experience teaching Korean at the college level;
   4. Ability to develop courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
   5. Evidence of scholarly activity in the field of Korean language and
   linguistics;
   6. High level of proficiency in Korean and English;
   7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with
   students, faculty, staff, and administration.

*Desirable Qualifications*


   1. Two years of experience teaching Korean at the college level
   2. Experience in multi-level Korean language teaching and curriculum
   development at the college level;
   3. Demonstrated capacity to instruct and advise graduate students in the
   relevant research field;
   4. Evidence of a strong publication record.
   5. Demonstrated ability to support the university’s mission of
   diversity, equity and inclusion.
