In addition to translations (mostly from Latin) of the 2 sets of letters it includes Kim Dae-Geon’s Records of Martyrs, translated Extracts from Government Records of Kim Dae-geon’s Interrogations, and a complete translation from the French of Bishop Ferréol’s Acts of the Martyrs (of 1839). Each section is fully annotated and the book opens with a brief history of the beginnings of the Korean Church. The lettres by Andrew Kim mostly relate his return journey across China and end with his arrival and capture in Korea. The letters of Thomas Choe were mostly written during his 10 years of ministry in Korea, and give vivid insight into the life of the Church at the time (1850-1860).
