Dear colleagues,

I hope you will join us on March 7 (KST) for a hybrid workshop on
Intellectuals in Dark Times.

Writings by Korean intellectuals under Yusin dictatorship (1972-1979) are
read and cited for historical context, to a lesser extent as intellectual
history, but for the most part, not as theorists or intellectuals in the
Gramscian sense.

Our aim is to examine a number of these figures—their writings and
praxis—as public intellectuals, producers of critical ideas, and activists
who helped form (affective) solidarities.

At the workshop on March 7 (KST), four papers will be presented. For the
Winter 2026 special issue of *Korea Journal*, we expect to publish eight
research articles along with a photo essay. Most of the papers and a
significant portion of the discussion will be in English.

Please see below for the Zoom information and workshop schedule.

All best,

Henry Em, KJ Deputy Editor-in-Chief

Jooyeun Son, KJ Managing Editor
