I am pleased to share the publication of the English edition of a book that I co-authored with Han Jin-myung, a former North Korean diplomat: I Was a North Korean Diplomat: Inside the Secret World of Pyongyang's Foreign Service.
The book is based on a series of in-depth conversations about the inner workings of North Korea’s diplomatic system. Drawing on the firsthand experience of Han Jin-myung, who served in the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at the North Korean embassy in Hanoi, it offers a rare insider perspective on the functioning of Pyongyang’s diplomatic apparatus.
Moving beyond common clichés about North Korea, the book explores the daily realities of diplomatic life, the internal functioning of embassies, and the political and economic pressures placed on diplomats abroad.
