The Korean Literature Association Article Prize (2026)
The Korean Literature Association<https://koreanlit.org/> (KLA) is pleased to announce the second annual KLA Article Prize competition, which recognizes excellence in research innovation, scholarly substance, and writing quality by a junior scholar in the field. Up to two winning articles will be selected by a Prize Committee consisting of diverse scholars in the Korean humanities. The winners will receive formal recognition at the annual KLA conference. They will also receive an invitation to the annual conference with waived registration fees and partial travel support.
Entries can be from any discipline in Korean cultural studies broadly defined, including comparative work that involves Korea. They must be published in English. Articles that appeared in a journal or edited volume/anthology in 2025 or in the first five months of 2026 are eligible. Nominations are accepted from current members of the KLA only, and each member is limited to one submission per year. Nominations may be submitted by the author (i.e., self-nomination) or by a colleague (of any rank). In the case of a nomination by a colleague, the article author does not have to be a current KLA member.
This year, there will be two categories of eligibility for the Article Prize. The Prize Committee may request additional documentation that confirms eligibility.
Ph.D. candidate: At the time of submission/nomination, the scholar has defended their prospectus and is in their dissertation writing stage.
Post-doc, non-tenured faculty, or independent scholar: This includes post-docs, visiting assistant professors, adjunct professors, non-tenure-track full-time professors, tenure-track assistant professors (who have not yet submitted their dossier for tenure promotion), and unaffiliated or independent scholars.
Tenured faculty may nominate others’ work, but their own articles are not eligible for the competition.
Submit your nomination to korlitorg at gmail.com. The deadline for submission is May 31, 2026. Please include the words “Article Prize” and the relevant category of eligibility in the subject line. The body of the message should include the author/nominee’s name and the title of the article. The PDF of the article should be attached. The nominating person should provide verbal confirmation that they are a current KLA member.
The winners will be contacted by the Prize Committee by August 31, 2026.
For additional information and guidelines, please consult the KLA website<https://koreanlit.org/>.
