[KS] Democracy

Dear list,

starting with the old debate on confucianism (whatever this might be) at a
workshop recently held in Wittenberg (the Luther-city), we came across the
question of democracy (again hard to define) in Korea.

In this context, I can strongly recommend a satirical article in the Korea
Herald on the relationship between yeodang and yadang:

Afterthoughts (Column by Ahn Jung-hyo): Difference of Yo and Ya

(I hope this link works, if not, just check the KH news of November 19, 1998)

My comment: Because an article like this (just one example out of many
others) could be written and published, I DO think that there is real
democracy in South Korea (in spite of some other experiences) and that's
why I like this country even more. It gave me a lot of fresh motivation,
and hopefully will do the same to others on this list who need it. And by
the way, it is just funny to read.
