Fulbright Forum Flourishes

Last week a meeting of the Fulbright Forum in Seoul provided a venue for =
international scholars and students in Korea, often isolated and =
separated, to get together and discuss a topic of current importance. =
Balbina Y. Hwang, current Fulbright grantee (98-99) and a doctoral =
candidate at Georgetown University, spoke on: "Globalization and =
National Identity in Korea: Koryo Faces the World." Her paper is based =
in part on the chapter, "The Ideational Sources of Korean Foreign =
Policy," to be published in a volume edited by Dr. Chung In Moon, =
Department of Political Science at Yonsei University. Ms. Hwang's =
presentation was attended by 35 scholars and students from Australia, =
Canada, New Zealand, and the U.K. as well as from the U.S. and Korea. =
The Fulbright Program in Korea seeks to build networks of scholars, and =
to focus on topics of academic and public significance in the midst of =
an international economic crisis. Ms. Hwang can be reached at =
<hwangb at gusun.georgetown.edu> Questions about the Forum can be =
addressed to <hhu at fulbright.or.kr> It is hopes that korean-studies =
subscribers in Korea will attend future Forum presentations, which will =
be announced in advance to the list.
