FULBRIGHT FORUM!

Fulbright in Seoul (the Korean American Educational Commission) is pleased
to invite you to attend the Fulbright Forum for April, which will be held on
Monday, April 19, 1999, at 6:30 p.m. at the Commission offices.

This month's Forum will be: HEALTH PROMOTION: AN EMERGING STRATEGY FOR
HEALTH IN KOREA

The presenter will be Dr. Michael P. O’Donnell, MPH, MBA, PhD; Editor in
Chief, American Journal of Health Promotion; Senior Fulbright Scholar;
Visiting Professor, Yonsei University, Graduate School of Health Sciences
and Management and Catholic University Department of Preventive Medicine.

Health promotion is a new concept in health care which recognizes the
importance of lifestyle practices such as exercise, nutrition, smoking, and
stress management in preventing disease and death. The most advanced
programs help people strive for balance in five dimensions of health:
physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual.

Health promotion is growing in the United States and is emerging in Korea
because lifestyle practices are responsible for almost half of the premature
deaths in the United States and Korea, and at least a quarter of the medical
care costs. Inexpensive workplace programs have been shown to improve
health behaviors and health conditions on a short term basis. Savings in
medical care costs and absenteeism have more than paid for the programs.
Intensive clinical programs have been successful in actually reversing heart
disease.

Programs in Korea include technology transfer, infrastructure development,
business development, research, and public policy. Dr. O'Donnell will speak
on these programs, his work, and the situation of health promotion in Korea.

We welcome all Fulbrighters to the Forum, senior lecturers and junior
researchers, as well as Board Members, Fulbright alumni, Peace Corps alumni,
Korean studies scholars, foreign graduate students, and other friends of
Korea and members of the Fulbright family.

The presentation will be followed by a reception (lots of hors-d'oeuvres!).
We hope many friends will come to enjoy the talk, the food, and the liquid
refreshment.

Place: Fulbright offices

Date: Monday, April 19, 1999

Time: 6:30 p.m.

See you on the 19th!
