The Department of East European and Oriental Studies
University of Oslo

invites applications for a three-year temporary position of
Associate Professor of Korean and East Asian Studies

The position is prefinanced by the Korea Foundation and will, according
to
present plans, be filled as a permanent position after the prefinancing
period is over.

Applicants must have academic qualifications (minimum Ph. D. or similar
qualifications) within modern Korean history, social or cultural
studies,
or philology. A broad competence within these fields is preferred over a
highly specialised one. Fluency of spoken and written Korean must be
documented.

The appointee will have the main responsibility for establishing a
one-year
course of East Asian area studies (in cooperation with the staff within
Chinese and Japanese studies). This will involve teaching of general
East
Asian courses as well as courses in Korean studies. The appointee will
also
be responsible for establishing Korean language studies at a basic
(first-year and possibly second-year) level. Research, supervision,
examination and administration duties will be according to general rules
applicable at the University of Oslo.

Apart from the present position, the department has the following
positions
within East Asian studies: two professors of Chinese language and
literature, one associate professor of Chinese history (vacant), one
professor of Japanese, two associate professors of Japanese.
