Thank you very much for the information on the Indonesian instruments in
your collection. Most likely the "barang baru" is a "bonang barung," which
is simply one of the three most common sizes of bonang in Central Java
(from smallest to largest they are "panerus," "barung," and "panembung").
However, Andy Sutton can probably make a positive identification for you,
as Javanese gamelan (in all its regional variety) is his speciality. He is
one of the top five scholars on Javanese gamelan worldwide, and an
excellent performer as well. And that is hardly his only musical interest.

I admit it: he is not only a professor at my university (University of
Wisconsin-Madison), he's also on my dissertation committee. Nevertheless,
any Indonesian music specialist will tell you the same.

I look forward to seeing the schedule of your conference when you post it.
Will you be posting abstracts of the articles as well?
