[KS] Queries

Hello list-members,

Please allow me to make two queries.

First, does anyone on the list know if there has been any kind of
evaluations - book reviews, comments, criticisms or whatever - on Oguma Eiji
's books, [The Myth of the Homogeneous Nation] (Tokyo: Shinyosya, 1995) and
[The Boundaries of the Japanese] (Tokyo: Shinyosya, 1998), either in Korean
or in English? Both books have a considerable chapters devoted on Korean
related issues and I would like to know how they were evaluated by scholars
of Korean studies within or abroad.

Second, again the content of the query is the same to the first. Can anyone
direct me to how Huruta Hiroshi's some seven or eight books, all devoted on
Korean matters, are evaluated? I have a sense that Koreans might not be very
fond of Huruta's view, but I would like to know precisely in what way,
provided there were some previous discussion regarding his books, which I am
not aware of. I am concerned, for the most part, with Huruta's cynical
discussions on Korean Confucianism and its corollary "ethics."

Any information (websites, quotes, personal opinions .), however minor, is
greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,
Theresa Shim (University of Tsukuba, Religious Studies, Ph.D. student)
