CALL FOR PAPERS

This is a call for papers for the 20001 Asian Studies Conference
Japan to be held on June 23-24 at the Ichigaya Campus of Sophia
University in Tokyo, Japan. The ASCJ is a regional affiliate of the
Association of Asian Studies (AAS). The 2001 conference will be its
fifth. Deadline for submitting proposals is December 1, 2000. While
individual papers are considered, organized panels (three speakers and
a discussant) are generally looked upon more favorably.)
The conference draws about 250 people interested in Asian
concerns of a wide variety of areas. Presenters vary from doctoral
candidates to established scholars.

I am sending this announcement to members the Korean-studies
listserve in the hope that a few people on the list will consider forming
panels for next year's conference. We have managed to put together one panel
for each of the last conferences involving Korean concerns, both made up of
two Japan-based Korean (zainichi) papers and one colonial-era paper. Both
panels
were well attended. Perhaps for next year's conference, though, we can include
panels with a little more issue diversity.

Information regarding the organization and the conference can be found on
our website
(http://www.meijigakuin.ac.jp/~kokusai/ascj01.htm). Please feel
free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the conference.
