    The Academy of Korean Studies is accepting papers for our Eleventh
International Conference tentatively scheduled from June 28 - 30, 2000.  The
theme, “Korean Identity in the New Millennium,” will explore issues that
have shaped the identity of Koreans and their culture from various aspects,
both historical and contemporary.  Of particular interest are papers
investigating awareness of Korean identity and culture in both the colonial
period and the contemporary period of globalization.  Additionally,
proposals addressing the culture and identity of the Korean diaspora are
welcomed.

    Scholars interested in participating at the conference should send
(either by post or e-mail) an abstract of no more than one page, their
institutional affiliation, address and contact information to the following
address by April 5, 2000:
