Not wanting to incur too much wrath, I will keep this brief. Hong
Kiltong--in the Wanp'anbon version--duplicates himself by animating seven
men/dolls made of straw/grass (ch'oin). He is thus able to appear and
wreak simultaneous havoc in all eight provinces.
