I thought the following was of interest to the list as well. The clinic
(run only by two midwives, no gynecologist) where the birth took place
was
mainly visited by pregnant women working as a nurse or in the
health-related sector. All of them (including us) had a strong
threatening
argument with their mother or mother in law and could only visit the
clinic
on the day of the birth without knowledge of the mother (in law). After
the
birth all the mothers (in law) changed their attitude completely after
having visited the place. The resentment against alternative things is
obviously very strong
The atmosphere was very tranquil almost esoteric, but also a bit
traditional Korean.
As I wrote above the pregnant women were mainly nurses. One of them was
working for a gynecologist and when the labor took too long and the
midwives wanted to transfer her to the hospital, she declined with the
words "Over my dead body" (well, in a similar Korean equivalent). The
midwives gave in, but told her afterwards that that might exactly have
happened. The equipment they had was sufficient enough, (oxygen and
everything was available) but they admitted not to have experience with
that. For those interested the URL is:

So obviously there are things changing, though in the eyes of the
younger
generation, not fast enough.
