Post: Professor of Chinese Law

Starting Date: Earliest convenient date

Salary: According to qualifications and experience. The professorial
minimum is currently £37,496 per annum.

Tenure: this is a non-fixed term (permanent) full professorship with
membership of the USS pension scheme.

Location: University of Durham, UK. The post is linked to the
University's Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies. The person may be
appointed to either the Department of East Asian Studies or the
Department of Law. The University of Durham was established in 1832. It
has approximately 10,000 students, including 2,000 postgraduates, on
undergraduate, masters and PhD programmes in three faculties (arts,
social sciences and sciences). Chinese studies has been taught for over
40 years and the University Library has extensive holdings on China in
Chinese and Western languages. The Department of Law is a
long-established department with an excellent record. Further

Qualifications required: PhD and research interest in some area of
contemporary mainland Chinese law, strong research publication record,
excellent English and Chinese language ability, ability to lecture in
English on contemporary Chinese law.

Research: The post-holder will be expected to continue to produce high
quality research publications. The University operates a 1 term in 9
terms research leave system, and encourages and supports staff in
developing their research. 

Teaching:  It is likely that post-holder would be expected to offer one
undergraduate course in Chinese law and two or three MA level courses;
the post-holder would also be expected to supervise doctoral students. 
Administration: The post-holder would be expected to make an appropriate
contribution to the administrative work of the Centre / Department.
