Subject: Re: North Korean Steel Industry
The "classic" study of the DPRK economy is Joseph Chung, "The North
Korean
Economy: Structure and Development" (1974). A number of edited volumes,
included Han-Shik Park's book on North Korea, have chapters on the
economy. Nicholas Eberstadt's recent "The End of North Korea" discusses
economic matters extensively (Eberstadt is an economist). A number of
CIA
studies have comparisons between North and South Korea, e.g. "Korea: The
Economic Race Between North and South" (US Government Printing Office,
1974). Also, not to be ignored are the DPRK's own publications, which
have a lot to say about industrialization even if their facts are less
than thoroughly reliable. Finally, the book "Korea: Rice and Steel" by a
Peruvian communist poet is a fun read.
