Some members of the list may not have seen this announcement in today's Korea Times: 

"Carl Ferris Milller, the American-born naturalist well known for his lifelong love of trees,
passed away yesterday in Taean, South Chungchong Province. He was aged 82. Miller had spent his
entire fortune and time establishing and caring for the Chollipo Arboretum, a garden where over
7,000 kinds of trees and herbaceous plants were collected. For his lifetime devotion to
forestry preservation and Korea, Miller, born in Pittston, Pennsylvania, was awarded the Order
of Industrial Service Merit, Gold Tower, by President Kim Dae-jung in March 11 this year. He
first came to Korea as a member of the U.S. Navy in 1945. A memorial service will be held for
him tomorrow at the Chollipo Arboretum in Taean, some 200km southwest of Seoul." 

He was also a leading member of the Korean branch of the RAS. The Arboretum is a very special
place and we must hope that its future has been ensured. It has its own Web Page at
