Professorial appointment in Korean Studies
(Academic Level E)

The University, with the generous support of the Korea Foundation, is 
seeking an outstanding scholar with interests in the areas of Korean 
history, society and culture.  The successful candidate will be 
expected to have a distinguished publication record, extensive 
experience in postgraduate education, and a demonstrated achievement 
in providing academic leadership.

In particular the University wishes to attract applicants whose range 
of academic work and publication includes an empirical interest in 
long-term historical and cultural issues, as well as scholars who are 
engaged with the broader theoretical concerns that enliven academic 
debate.  These include those fields of the Humanities such as 
history, philosophy, literature and religion. 

The successful applicant will be expected to provide academic, 
scholarly and administrative leadership that has cross-disciplinary 
relevance, and to cooperate  with Australian and international 
scholars to advance research and teaching in Korean studies.

Appointment:  The position will be offered as a standard full-time 
appointment and will be held jointly in the Research School of 
Pacific and Asian Studies and the Faculty of Asian Studies.  There 
will be a period of probation, which will be determined between the 
University and the successful candidate at the time of appointment.

Salary (from September 2002):  Not less than $99,949 per annum.  (In 
addition there are generous superannuation provisions and 
opportunities for external earnings within University policy.)
