[KS] Re: where are the historians

If it makes you feel any better, Jay, I gave an interview to CNBC last
night, which I believe is primarily watched by the foreign business
community in Asia. When the interviewer said that John Bolton after his
talks with the Chinese was more pessimistic than ever that a solution could
be found, I argued that that was a good thing, because it showed that
Bolton's visit was a last-ditch effort by the hawks in Washington to get the
Chinese and South Koreans to go along with a sanctions policy, and now that
it's failed the pro-engagement forces will get their crack at it. I also
pointed out that the six-party format is likely to put as much pressure on
the U.S. as on the North Koreans to bargain in good faith, and I refused to
take the bait when the reporter said that Bolton thinks KJI is not someone
you can do business with. In any case, for the few people who heard it, I
hope I gave them a bit different perspective than they usually get from the
barking dogs in Washington.
